Here’s my top album picks of 2008 folks, these are in no particular order at all, just my favourite albums that came out this past year.

Bloc Party – Intimacy
Truthfully I wasn’t super keen on this album when it first came out, it’s definitely a bit of a slow burn, but after repeated listens it’s actually a pretty solid album.

The Gaslight Anthem – The ’59 Sound
This album is just solid from start to finish, I’ve long given up on modern punk bands in general, but once in a while an album comes along that reminds me why I fell for the genre when I was 14.

Cadence Weapon – Afterparty Babies
Cadence Weapon is still greatly under rated IMO. The guy samples nintendo games and gives shout outs to grasshopper beer without any irony implied. Best line of the record “I wish you’d where me out like vinyl promos” Best song title “You’re hair’s not clothes!”

Nine Inch Nails – Ghost I-IV and The Slip
My favourite band released 2 albums this year, and thus further cemented my man crush on Trent Reznor. Plus anyone who saw the “Lights in the Sky” tour will agree that it was one hell of a show.

Tokyo Police Club – Elephant Shell
When their first EP was I honestly wasn’t that impressed, I just couldn’t see what all the hype about this band was about. That all changed with the second album which to me shows the full potential of this band, they manage to perfectly some up the feeling of playing in a garage band with your best friends without worrying about how cool you are.

Metallica – Death Magnetic
Hey it’s a solid album, some music isn’t meant to be heavily contemplated and dissected. This album rocks, and in the word’s of Chris Pavel “Dude, it makes me wanna punch old people”.

So there ya go, my top picks of 2008 because I know you were all deeply interested in exactly what I was listening to this year.
